Divisiveness vs. Common Ground
Watched the Beto v. Cruz debate on Facebook Friday. That an a homily by a priest on Thursday brought to mind what is so wrong in this country today. There is so much retoric around picking apart the differences between candidates – and in doing so, they are driving a wedge in the electorate that keeps us from finding common ground.
True to form, Cruz would find any chance he could to demean or belittle Beto's viewpoint. Even when he was asked explicitly to offer up something he admires about Beto would he twist that into something divisive.
That is exactly the kind of thing we need less of in Washington.
We need people who can work above that and come together on common ground to heal this country from our self-inflicted wounds. We need people who can pop our isolationist bubbles so we can see the whole problem. We need people who really listen to others.
We need to start with a foundation on common ground and build solutions that work for everyone.
