What’s this site all about?

Well, where I’m at right now, I’m trying to make sense of this moment in time.  Trying to explain it to myself.  Trying to look for wisdom from the past — things we need to pay attention to.

To follow in the wisdom in George Lucas, I’m looking for the points where past and present rhyme.

This is a very perilous time for America.  Certainly the most turbulent in my lifetime, but our past isn’t without turbulence.  I don’t think we teach our citizens well enough on the history of this country, and I know we don’t teach them well enough on the history of the world.  There are a lot of examples of behavior like we are seeing now.

The 2024 election results were a bitter pill for me.  And the first couple of months of this presidency are nearly everything I tried to warn people about. It is just getting started.  So, as I try to have those hard conversations, I needed something to ground me.  Some written record to work off of.  Something to focus my thoughts.

Part of making sense of this moment is trying to make sense of friends and family that don’t see things the way I do.  I’ve lost contact with many of them that fell under the spell that lead to the election of 2016.  People I respected, people I love, and people that I thought should know better. Some of these people are still cheering on the current events, and I just don’t understand why.

Something to try and make sense of all this, but also to give me some sort of purpose to fight back in some small way.  Maybe, if I can keep myself calm enough, I might reach people.  Or maybe, when I do lash out, I will have enough organized thought to get something in there that will reach them.

So, what you’re seeing on these pages is me asking questions, pulling together ideas, and trying to understand why we are in the moment we are in. I will make some proposals, from time to time, for where I see a better path forward
